My Mexican friends tell me these beans are better than their mama's! To cook on the stove top instead of slow cooker, cook with covered lid over medium to medium-high heat for about 2 hours and increase water to 7 C (checking to see if more water needs to be added during cooking).

Ingredients
2 C dry pinto beans, rinsed
1 12-oz can beer (or sub with 1½ C water)
4 C chicken broth
3 C water
1 bay leaf
1 jalapeno, diced
1 onion, diced
½ C cilantro, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 roma tomatoes, diced
5 slices cooked bacon, chopped
1 T reserved bacon grease
1 t salt
1 t black pepper
1 t oregano
1 t cumin
Preparation
Combine all listed ingredients above into slow cooker. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on high for 8 hours.
