A special treat around my house for sure! I always asked Granny to leave out the raisins, but you can add as many as you like.

Ingredients
6 slices of day old white bread, torn into small pieces
2 T melted butter
½ C raisins (optional)
2 C scalded milk
1 t vanilla extract
¾ C granulated sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 t cinnamon
¼ t nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1 T honey
Preparation
In a small saucepan, bring milk to almost boiling point over medium-low heat, stirring constantly. As soon as it begins to boil, off the heat and remove to cool completely.
Preheat oven to 325° F and lightly butter a 9" x 13" casserole dish and layer torn bread pieces evenly across the bottom.
Drizzle melted butter all over the bread and sprinkle raisins over the top (optional).
In a large bowl, combine eggs, pinch of salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, sugar, cooled scalded milk and honey until all is very well incorporated.
Pour over the bread mixture and ensure all the bread pieces have soaked up all of the liquid.
Bake uncovered for 1 hour.
